Play-based
preschool in Lenexa,
trusted since 1997
Long-tenured teachers, caring classrooms, and the kind of consistency families choose year after year.
The things parents care about
most, all in one place
Choosing preschool is about more than finding a classroom. It is about finding people you trust, a place your child feels safe and known, and a program that helps them grow with confidence.
Family atmosphere
Building Blocks has always been designed to feel personal. Families are welcomed, communication is open, and children are cared for by people who genuinely know them.
Staff who stay
Low turnover means children and families see familiar faces year after year. That consistency helps create the kind of trust, stability, and connection that matters in early childhood.
Learning through play
We believe children learn best by doing. Through hands-on experiences, structured play, classroom routines, and meaningful relationships, children build social, emotional, and early academic foundations.
Strong family communication
We believe parents are partners. We communicate clearly and work closely with families to support each child's growth.
Confidence first
We want children to leave Building Blocks feeling good about themselves, proud of what they can do, and excited about learning.
Room to grow
From the Green Room to Pre-K, each classroom builds on the one before it so children can develop skills, independence, and readiness at a pace that fits who they are.
A clear next step for every stage
Our classrooms are organized by age and development, giving children the support they need at each stage while helping families clearly understand what comes next.
Play is serious
business.
At Building Blocks, play is not separate from learning. It is how learning happens. Through circle time, centers, show-and-tell, music and movement, outdoor play, and hands-on exploration, children develop language, friendships, self-control, confidence, and early academic skills in ways that feel natural and joyful.
The people who will know your child
One of Building Blocks' greatest strengths is the consistency of its team. Families are not starting over with new faces every few months. They are joining a school where relationships have time to grow.
Anna has been part of the Building Blocks family since her first son, Grayson, started in the Green Room in 2016. After seeing firsthand what made the center special, she joined the team as a part-time teacher and eventually stepped into the director role.
Miss Nisha is one of the most beloved and long-standing members of the Building Blocks family. She began as a substitute, spent 18 years in the Blue Room, and now supports the center from the office.
Miss Kiah has been part of the Building Blocks family for more than a decade and spent many of those years leading the Red Room. Her calm presence and deep care for children make her a trusted guide for families and teachers alike.
Started with a crayon
and a dream
"Own a Child Care Center where children can learn and be happy."
Building Blocks began with a childhood dream and opened its doors on August 4, 1997. What started as a hand-drawn floor plan on a piece of paper became the school generations of local families now know and trust.
That original vision still shapes the center today: a place where children are cared for thoughtfully, families feel welcomed, and learning is rooted in joy.
